Second Chance Sessions are dog adoption photos offered at no cost to approved shelters, rescue organizations, and foster families with adoptable dogs.
The photographs are created specifically to help dogs find homes and can be used for adoption listings, rescue websites, social media, and other adoption related purposes.

ABOUT SECOND CHANCE SESSIONS
Through Soul Dog Studio, I offer free adoption photography for shelters, rescues, and foster dogs in Maine who are looking for their forever homes.
For the last 10 years, I’ve provided complimentary photography for dogs waiting for their forever homes. Second Chance Sessions is an extension of that work, created to give shelter and rescue dogs the opportunity to be seen as more than just a kennel photo.
A great photograph can be the first step toward someone stopping to read their story, sharing their post, or deciding to meet them.
WHO IS A SECOND CHANCE SESSION FOR?
These sessions are for adoptable dogs who could use a little extra help getting noticed, including:
Long-time dogs currently available for adoption through a shelter or rescue
Dogs living in foster homes while waiting for their forever family
Senior dogs who are often overlooked
Dogs with special needs or unique personalities
Shy, reactive, or nervous dogs who need a more personal approach
Dogs who have been waiting longer than they'd like
Dogs whose current adoption photos don't do them justice
HOW DOES IT WORK?
It starts with a dog desperately waiting for their second chance. Once a dog is selected for a Second Chance Session, we’ll coordinate a time for them to come into Soul Dog Studio in Brunswick, Maine. There’s no need for perfect manners! Sessions are kept personal and private so each dog can feel relaxed so we can capture how they really are.
Then we make some magic. During their session, we’ll take a variety of portraits that showcase their personality, expressions, quirks, and all the little things that make them special. We’ll let them take their time, get comfortable, and have plenty of breaks along the way. Some dogs are naturals in front of the camera, while others need a little more encouragement. Both are completely welcome. Sessions are kept personal and private so each dog can feel relaxed. Every session is doggie-led, with treats, toys, and plenty of patience to help them feel safe, comfortable, and themselves in front of the camera.
After the session, I’ll carefully edit their best images and provide them to the rescue or shelter to use for adoption marketing, social media, websites, Petfinder listings, and wherever else they can help tell their story.
These sessions are completely free to the rescue and the dogs. They are made possible through Second Chance Sponsors and my commitment to giving back to the dogs who are still waiting for their people.
Because every dog deserves to be seen for who they are, not just where they came from.

Where Does the Money Go?
Every sponsored session helps make beautiful, professional adoption photography possible for a dog who may otherwise never have the opportunity.
Your sponsorship helps cover the real costs behind each session, including studio time, backdrop paper and other studio supplies, treats, props, editing time, and the time spent photographing and preparing each dog's final images. Even something as simple as a seamless backdrop can cost over $100 per roll, and every session uses supplies that need to be continually replenished.
